  1. What does the maintainer do? Inspect a valve, cross a channel, remove a cover or reach roof plant?
  2. How is the component supported? Supply measured opening, bearing width, support span, fixing substrate and any existing frame condition.
  3. What loads and exposure apply? Include concentrated loads, equipment, temporary construction use, water/splash, chemicals and ultraviolet exposure.
  4. What happens at inspection and replacement? Define lifting, restraint, access clearance, drainage and the asset owner’s inspection requirements.

GRP grating may suit a specified walking surface once the load/span and opening checks pass. Which grating thickness should I buy for a reservoir walkway?

Thickness alone is insufficient. Send span, support, loading, mesh/opening, resin and fixing requirements for the actual maintenance task.

Can a GRP panel replace a corroded steel cover?

Possibly, but first check the existing frame, bearing, lift method, restraint and any vehicle or plant loading.
