A standard can be current yet wrong for the application. Identify whether the access primarily serves machinery, a building, an industrial floor, a public route or work at height.

GRP access system FAQs

Should stairs be considered before a fixed ladder?

For frequent access or when carrying tools, stairs or another method providing better collective protection should normally be considered first. Selection follows the applicable standard and risk assessment.

Can GRP access systems be installed without structural verification?

Product data supports selection, but completed members, bracing, joints, flooring, handrails, anchors and supporting construction still require appropriate verification.

Does BS EN ISO 14122 apply to every industrial platform?

No. Its primary scope is permanent means of access to machinery. Building, civil and general industrial access may engage different or additional requirements.

Can an existing roof or slab support a GRP platform?

That must be confirmed. Reduced self-weight helps, but reactions, imposed loads, wind, waterproofing and existing structural capacity still require assessment.

What information is needed for a quote?

Provide dimensions, levels, intended use, standards and loads, substrate/fixing constraints, exposure, supply route and any drawings or survey information.
