GRP grating and covers for secure estates: a buying checklist
The purchasing decision for a justice or other secure estate begins with a drawing and an approved location, not a catalogue search. A replacement grating panel for a defined maintenance walkway may be a product order. A new elevated platform around plant, with a frame, guarding and anchors, is an engineered access package.

Use a stock product only when the design is settled
For prisons, courts and other controlled estates, provide the approved location, loads, span, support and component-control method before requesting a price. See the Justice and Secure Estates product guide for task-based routes.
For a product order, send the measured opening, clear support span, bearing width, load and point-load requirement, grip requirement, environment, cut size, fixing detail and the designer’s product specification. If the item is removable, include its authorised lifting and restraint method. If an existing support is corroded or its capacity is unknown, stop and obtain a structural review before selecting the panel.
Do not treat generic GRP properties as an estate approval. Prisoner-facing applications, secure boundaries, anti-climb, anti-ligature or tamper-resistance requirements need a project-specific complete-system design and the relevant authority’s sign-off. A stock GRP product is not supplied with a blanket security rating.
If the responsible designer has defined the component, GRP Express grating, profiles and handrail components are useful product routes. Cut-to-size GRP can simplify ordering, but cut sizing does not replace design verification. Send a non-sensitive schedule through contact. For survey, structural design, fabrication or installation around complex plant, use Vital GRP.
