Assurance and buyer confidence
Warranty, design life and quality testing for GRP
GRP performance depends on the product, resin, installation, environment, load, maintenance and project verification. This page explains the evidence buyers should ask for before relying on a design-life claim.
Warranty is not the same as design life
Warranty
A commercial promise with terms, exclusions and claim conditions. It normally depends on correct product selection, storage, installation and use.
Design life
An engineering assumption for a particular environment, duty and maintenance regime. It is not a universal life guarantee for every site.
Quality evidence
Datasheets, load data, material properties, resin guidance, slip evidence, test reports and traceable product information.
What affects GRP service life?
| Factor | Why it matters | Buyer action |
|---|---|---|
| Resin and chemical exposure | Wrong resin can reduce durability in aggressive environments. | Use the chemical resistance guide and verify project conditions. |
| UV, heat and fire requirements | Exposure and fire performance requirements vary by site. | Check resin and fire guidance before supply. |
| Load and deflection | Over-span or wrong orientation can reduce serviceability or safety. | Use load tables, drawings and project calculations. |
| Installation quality | Poor fixing, unsealed cuts or unsupported edges can create early failure. | Follow installation guidance and inspect before opening. |
| Inspection and cleaning | Contamination, loose fixings and damaged surfaces reduce performance. | Set maintenance frequency by risk and use. |

Separate warranty, design life and product evidence
Warranty period, expected design life and test evidence answer different questions. They should be reviewed alongside the actual product, installation, environment, inspection regime and stated exclusions.
Warranty
A warranty records defined obligations and exclusions for an agreed period. It does not remove the need for correct selection, storage, installation and maintenance.
Design life
A design-life expectation depends on duty, exposure, details, supports, fixings, damage and maintenance. It is not a universal property of all GRP.
Testing and quality
Test reports and quality controls apply to named products, configurations and methods. Check that the evidence matches what will be supplied and installed.

Practical questions
Does a long warranty prove the product suits the application?
No. Suitability must be established from the project requirement and applicable product evidence.
What should be retained at handover?
Keep quotations, drawings, product data, installation records, inspection requirements, photographs and any applicable warranty information.
