How to Install Anti-Slip Sheets and Strips

Anti-slip sheets and strips work best when the substrate is clean, dry, stable and properly set out. The installation route should reflect traffic, exposure, drainage and whether the surface needs full coverage or hazard marking.

Installation sequence

  1. Survey the route and mark hazards, turns, thresholds and drainage falls.
  2. Remove loose material, grease, standing water and incompatible coatings.
  3. Dry-fit sheets or strips before adhesive or fixings are applied.
  4. Keep expansion, trip and drainage points clear.
  5. Use adhesive, mechanical fixings or both where the substrate and duty require it.
  6. Inspect all edges before opening the route to foot traffic.

Prepare the substrate before installing anti-slip sheets or strips

The quality of an anti-slip installation depends on the surface below it. Survey contamination, moisture, damage, falls and thresholds before measuring, dry fitting and choosing the fixing arrangement.

Prepare the surface

Remove loose material and contamination using a method compatible with the substrate. Repair defects and allow the surface to reach the condition required by the adhesive.

Plan the layout

Dry fit sheets or strips, maintain drainage, avoid raised trip edges and plan joints, thresholds, corners and access to existing covers or equipment.

Bond and fix

Use compatible adhesive and suitable mechanical fixings in accordance with the product route. Control squeeze-out, swarf and movement during cure.

Practical questions

Can anti-slip sheets cover a damaged floor?

They should not conceal an unstable or unsuitable substrate. Repair and prepare the base so the new surface can be securely supported and fixed.

Should drainage gaps be retained?

Yes where drainage is part of the route. The layout should avoid trapping water or contamination and must not create unsupported edges.
